BHUTAN

Wow, a rare postcard from the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan!  The card shows the Phunakha Dzong, from the district of the Phunakha, former capital of the kingdom (since 1955 the capital is in Thimphu).  The card was franked with a delightful stamp showing a fierce mythical lion.

BHUTAN

This pastoral scene comes from the tiny Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan. It shows a simple herding encampment and horses beneath a towering, mist-shrouded mountain imposing on the green valley below. Stunning in its simplicity, this is one of the few cards I have ever seen from this country.

Bhutan stamps

These stamps graced the card above, and show symbols from local Buddhist traditions and cosmology from this Himalayan kingdom. Bhutan also shows a dragon in bold colors on its flag.
