These are some of the stunning postcards that have come to me from among the world's most remote places and islands, with a special focus on the scenery, wildlife and culture of Africa. If you live or travel in exotic places, send along a card to display on the site. See also "Africa Stamps" on Facebook or Contact: maravalman @ gmail.com
ALGERIA
This lovely card shows a spring scene and flowers in the Aures region of Algeria, with a sweeping landscape view from the hills to the sea. It was franked with a local flowers issue showing petunias in bloom.
PITCAIRN Is.
This lovely island scene was posted from what is perhaps the smallest stamp issuing territory in the world, with just under 50 inhabitants. The island is famed for its rugged beauty and stormy history, dating to the mutiny of the Bounty in 1789.
ZAMBIA
Majestic Victoria Falls, on the Zambezi River, forms the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. This card was mailed from S. Africa with stamps showing local traditional handcrafts
PAPUA NEW GUINEA
This lovely card shows Nuratu island, in Milne Bay Province in northern Papua New Guinea; the card was franked with a stamp showing a reef fish species
GABON
This stunning card shows one of the famous inselbergs of Gabon's interior; these rocky plateau-like outcroppings rise unexpectedly from the green forest of the surrounding landscape, seemingly surreal
GRAND TURK, Turks and Caicos Is.
This lovely card comes from the Turks and Caicos, a British Territory adjacent to the Bahamas, and shows island flora and scenery. The stamp affixed is a lovely WWF issue showing the Red-tailed Hawk.
REP. of GUINEA / Guinee-Conakry
This lovely card shows a rural road near Kissidougou, in central Guinea (the recent Ebola epidemic began not far from here). This card was franked with a lovely stamp showing women transporting traditional baskets
NEW CALEDONIA
This lovely card was sent by Denise, and shows the "parted rocks" of Bourail, at sunset. Simply stunning! This prepaid card sports pre-affixed postage, and was cancelled in Noumea, the capital.
NIGER
This lovely card shows a scene on the Niger River, lifeline to a number of W. African countries as it flows toward the delta in the Gulf of Guinea. Niger's capital, Niamey, grew along this vital waterway in an otherwise dry nation.
KOSRAE, Micronesia
This lovely scenic card shows the coastline and reef of Kosrae, one of four island groups in the Federated States of Micronesia. The card was franked with a lovely stamp showing a typical island beauty
Rep. of CONGO
This traditional river scene was hand painted on a thick card and makes for one of the most original and stunning African cards I have acquired.
FIJI
This gorgeous aerial view shows the Fijian, a seaside resort located on the small private island of Yanuca. The card came franked with a stamp showing the Many-Coloured Fruit Dove, with a town cancel from Nadi.
